Worship
This is a church where…
The Earth herself, rather than a building, is the bearer of sacredness, a place where people gather for contemplative practice in communion with each other and Nature and God, a place where people come together to learn, explore, and take action — to be transformed and renew the Earth.
Schedule
Church of the Woods offers two opportunities to worship in Nature:
Sunday Service: 9:30 am (~90 Minutes)
Self-Guided Contemplation: dawn - dusk
Church of the Woods is located at the end of a long dirt driveway. The grounds are gravel and Earth-surfaced. Some trails are fully accessible in good weather. The more remote trails have some narrow, steep, and rugged sections. If you have questions, please email us at: Emily.Bradley@myyahoo.com
Liturgy
Church of the Woods liturgy — rooted in Episcopal tradition — is distinguished by four characteristics:
Congregation: our congregation is comprised of all beings and creatures present in the woods and is not limited to humans.
Contemplation: after readings and a homily, we enter the woods for 20 minutes of silent contemplation.
Community: when we return from the woods, each member has the opportunity to share.
Communion: the service concludes with Holy Eucharist — offered to all.
Weather
In good weather — April through October — services are generally held outside, so come dressed for rain, sun, or snow.
In less clement weather, the service will be held in our simple barn or chapel.
